Making Your Game More Heroic, Part 3 (PF2E)

I'm going to talk Hero Points one more time before taking a break from them for a bit. I've offered ways on giving Hero Points more oomph and guidance on making sure Hero Points get rewarded more often. Now, I'm going to give some feats that will help your players make the most of their Hero Points. These feats are designed to work with the base Hero Point rules as well as the expanded Hero Point options I presented in my first blog. If you want to make your game really heroic, consider giving a free general feat at 1st and 11th level solely to take one of these Hero Point feats. Let me know what you think about the feats!

Each of these new feats features a new trait: heroic.

Heroic (trait) A feat with this trait affects or manipulates the usage of Hero Points. A given use of a Hero Point can only be affected by a single feat with this trait at a time, even if multiple feats could apply to the usage of the Hero Point.

Heroic Conservation [free-action] Feat 1

General, Heroic

Trigger You use a Hero Point.

Your talents allow you to maintain your heroic potential. After determining the results of your use of a Hero Point, attempt a DC 19 flat check. On a success, you retain that Hero Point and can use it again immediately. If your use of a Hero Point granted you a reroll and you failed that check, the flat check to retain the Hero Point is only DC 17.

Heroic Reposition [free-action] Feat 3

General, Heroic

Trigger You use a Hero Point.

Your heroic potential moves you around the battlefield. You Stride or Step.

Heroic Resistance [free-action] Feat 3

General, Heroic

Trigger You use a Hero Point to reroll a saving throw.

Your heroic potential defends you from further attempts to harm you. After determining the results of your use of a Hero Point, you gain a +2 circumstance bonus to the type of saving throw you just attempted (Fortitude saves, Reflex saves, or Will saves) for 1 minute.

Heroic Recovery [free-action] Feat 7

General, Heroic

Trigger You use a Hero Point.

Your heroic potential invigorates you to keep fighting. You recover a number of Hit Points equal to twice your level.

Heroic Devastation [free-action] Feat 7

General, Heroic

Trigger You use a Hero Point to reroll an attack roll.

Your heroic potential guides your attack. If your reroll causes your attack roll to succeed, you get a critical success instead. If your reroll caused you to critically succeed, your attack causes your target to become stunned 1 in addition to the normal effects of your critical success.

Improved Heroic Conservation Feat 11

General, Heroic

Prerequisites Heroic Conservation

You are more capable at maintaining your heroic potential. The DC to recover a Hero Point with Heroic Conservation is only a DC 17, or a DC 15 if you failed a reroll granted by the Hero Point.

Greater Heroic Conservation Feat 19

General, Heroic

Prerequisites Heroic Conservation, Improved Heroic Conservation

Your capacity to maintain your heroic potential is unmatched. The DC to recover a Hero Point with Heroic Conservation is only a DC 15, or a DC 13 if you failed a reroll granted by the Hero Point.
